I am a mother trying to protect my teenage daughter from being forced back into an unsafe and abusive situation.

Last year, my daughter made the incredibly brave decision to speak up about abuse she had been experiencing. What followed involved school officials, child protective services, and law enforcement. It was one of the most terrifying moments of our lives — but it led to something important: protection.

A judge granted her a one year restraining order, giving her the space to finally feel safe and begin healing.

Since then, she has made meaningful progress in therapy and school. But now, that protection is about to expire in May.

As that date approaches, her fear and anxiety are returning. She is terrified of being forced to see the person who hurt her — especially now that she spoken out.

Since the restraining order was issued, additional concerns have come to light regarding her father’s stability and behavior. He is currently going through a divorce, during which his former spouse was also granted a restraining order against him as well as a restraining order against his new girlfriend for on ongoing harassment issues, resulting in further legal action.

This pattern of escalating instability only deepens my concern for my daughter’s safety if she were forced to return.

In order to keep her safe, I must take legal action in another state to extend her protection. I have found an attorney willing to help at a reduced cost, but I cannot afford the retainer on my own.

I am asking for help to protect my child.
