Help Amanda get her Wheelchair Lift!
I’m thrilled to know this beautiful woman and I would love to help her in anyway I possibly can. She’s a fantastic friend, wife, mother and leader.
Here’s her story:
“After years of health issues, in 2017 a tragic event caused my body to completely shut down. After months of trying to pin point issues, the doctors where stumped. Conditions were thrown around like dollar bills- MS, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Cancer.... come to find out I have neurological Lyme Disease. I was bed ridden for 8 months. And by the beginning of 2018, I was starting to feels much better with medications and supplements helping me stay functioning.
During the summer of 2019 I started to feel off. My gate had changed and walking normally was getting very difficult. By the fall, I was walking with a cane to assist me as my legs would go numb or stiff. In January the pain, pins and needles feeling was getting so much worse. I was using crutches to get around and no longer walking... more like dragging my legs.
In February of 2020, the majority of the feeling in my legs was now gone. I was now in a wheelchair full time. I have been to Lyme specialist, neurologist, and a slew of other amazing doctors. Although Lyme paralysis is rare, it can happen and it did to me.
As a Lyme patient you quickly learn that Lyme is not covered by insurance. Lots of money is spent on medications and treatments.
Now that I have to convert my Minivan to hand controls and I also need to get a wheelchair lift for my van. We have been able to pay for the hand control conversion, but the device needed to help get the wheelchair is just over $5,000 plus installation/labor/taxes. We are now close to $7,000 so I’m asking for your help. I just want my freedom back. This will help me get my independence back so I can take my kids to school, take myself to the doctor and do the simplest things again that we all take for granted.“
Thank you,
Amanda Thompson
