Alma came to Minnesota from Guatemala with a simple dream: to build a safe and stable life for her family. Together with her husband, she worked hard, faced the cold, the distance from home, and the challenges of starting over in a new country. This past year her life changed in a devastating way when her husband passed away from an illness that progressed far too quickly, leaving her alone, heartbroken, and fully responsible for caring for and supporting her children.
Despite her grief, Alma continues to show incredible strength. She gets up every day to work, care for her children, and keep hope alive for their future. She has no close family in the United States, and as an immigrant, she faces many barriers that make this difficult time even harder — including medical bills, rent, food, transportation, and supporting the emotional well-being of her children as they cope with the loss of their father. With everything going on with immigration in 2026, it has also become more difficult for her to go to work and feel secure about providing for her family.
Today, Alma needs the support of a community that can stand beside her and help her through this painful and uncertain moment. She is not asking for charity — she is asking for a chance to keep moving forward, to stay on her feet, and to give her children stability while she rebuilds her life after such a heartbreaking loss.
Every donation — no matter how small — helps provide:
• A safe and stable home for her children
• Food and basic necessities during this difficult transition
• Transportation so she can continue getting to work
• Support as she navigates medical and household expenses
• A small moment of relief in the middle of a grief that still deeply hurts
Your kindness can help Alma and her children take their next steps forward — together.
