Help Allie Visit Her Ill Mother
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Ruth and I am starting this GoFundMe for my dear friend and coworker, Allie Carpenter.
Allie had taken care of her mother for years before she had moved away. Her mother is very ill and unfortunately, between work and having to pay bills, rent, etc. It would be very helpful to get some extra funding for travel and hotel expenses. So I wanted to start this GoFundMe to help with travel expenses so she can go visit and be with her mother in her last days.
If you are able to, please help Allie so she is able to go see her mom and spend time with her.
here is more in Allie’s story:
My name is Allie Carpenter, I am 25 years old. My mother is Wendie Carpenter. The hard news of my mother being officially diagnosed with Huntington's Disease and Parkinsons Disease fell on my father and I back in mid 2014. Huntington's Disease is a rare, inherited brain disorder that causes nerve cells in the brain to break down and die over time. It's caused by a faulty gene, called HTT. Symptoms of Huntington's Disease are difficulty eating, leading to frequent choking. Talking, slurred speech. Walking and balance problems, leading to falling. The movement disorders related to Huntington's disease may cause movements that can't be controlled, called chorea. Chorea are involuntary movements affecting all the muscles of the body, specifically the arms and legs, the face and the tongue. There are a handful more symptoms including memory loss. Huntington's Disease has no cure. My mother over time has completely lost control of her body, she needs care at all times. I have been helping my father take care of my mother prior to 2014.
Over the years of being a caregiver to my own mother; and watching her decline has done damage that I truly can't put into words. It was just my father and I doing everything we could to give my mother the best care. My mother became wheelchair bound due to losing her ability to safely walk mid 2023. As my mother conditions have worsened over time, my father made the decision at the end of 2023 to move to Georgia so that she will have more family support. Since the move, she has declined faster than we expected. My father had informed me on August 22d of this year that I should try to get out to see my mother sooner than later. I have been confiding to my Specialty Manager Regina at The Home Depot over time I have known her, about my mother. She knows my emotional state regarding my mother's decline. I have stressed about the financial hardship of not being able to afford to fly out to see her before she forgets who l am or passes.
