Hi my name is Jodes and I am fundraising for my cousins Alistair and Belinda Wilson.
The following story is direct from Belinda! I asked her to write the story so far!
Help Alistair Fight Stage 3 Cancer
On New Year’s Eve, Alistair went to the dentist to have a sharp tooth filed down — it was cutting into his tongue. The dentist noticed the “cut” looked more like a lesion and told him to go straight to the ER. Within an hour, he had a biopsy, CT scan, and blood tests.
Two weeks later, we received devastating news: Alistair was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma in his tongue. A PET scan and consultation with a maxillofacial surgeon at the Royal Hospital confirmed the cancer was Stage 3 and had spread to a lymph node on the right side of his neck. We were told the tumour is inoperable — it’s wrapped around his jugular and too dangerous to remove.
He began chemotherapy and immunotherapy six weeks after his diagnosis, carrying home a chemo pump for four days at a time. The treatment has been incredibly tough, but Alistair has faced it with strength and courage. Unfortunately, after four rounds, the tumours have continued to grow and have now spread to other parts of his neck and chest.
He will have one more round of this treatment and then another PET scan to assess what comes next.
Alistair has been off work since December and has exhausted all of his leave. He doesn’t have income protection. We've been relying on my wage alone, which doesn’t even cover our monthly mortgage. Our savings are now gone. I've used all my own leave to care for Alistair and attend appointments, and now I’ll need to take unpaid time off work.
We have always worked hard and never imagined we’d be in this position. It’s incredibly difficult for us to ask for help, but we’ve hit a roadblock and have no other options.
We are asking for any support to help us get through the next few weeks and months as we face the next phase of Alistair’s treatment.
Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward living expenses, medical costs, and giving Alistair the care he needs.
If you’re not in a position to donate please share this Go fund me for us!
From the bottom of our hearts —we thank you.
