Help Alex Walk
Donation protected
My grandson, Alexander Ofsa was severely beaten by a caregiver on 4-11-18 and his life was changed forever. He suffered a stroke with 2 fractures of his skull and a blood clot on his spine. He was on a ventilator for 7 days as doctors and nurses in Pediatric ICU worked diligently to lower his intracranial pressure and save as much brain function as possible. He suffered multiple seizures and remains on seizure medicine. He is also blind now due to bleeding behind his retinas. He has had 3 eye surgeries with no chance of sight in his left eye and a slight chance of some vision with his right eye as that pupil reacts slightly to light. This beautiful boy has been recovering slowly and at 13 months he can now sit up. He is resilient, a happy boy now but insurance will not cover his needs. He cannot weight bear and is at risk for disfigured hip and leg joints. If this is allowed to occur he may lose any chance of walking. He needs a Stander which braces his legs in a standing position allowing proper joint formation and also strengthening of his legs and trunk. A Stander costs $2 000-3,000 depending on which model is needed. We also need help to be able to stay in Philadelphia for 2 weeks of concentrated therapy to help Alex walk. The Shriners pay for the hotel when Alex is there but we need assistance for gas and food. He was also prescribed special glasses but those have been denied. His father is still trying to get them approved. Please watch his videos, he is wonderful! Help Alexander have as normal a life as possible. Please help him walk.
