Alberta Brown’s car is belly up. Kaput. Transmission shot. Alberta's job is the Peer Outreach worker for Florida Harm Reduction in Pinellas County. She meets her clients where they are, in crack houses and on the street, preventing overdoses, infections, and immunizing for HIV and Hepatitis C. She works with caretakers teaching them to treat her clients as a person, a fellow human being, not an addict. She teaches her clients how to not be afraid of the healthcare system.

It may not be your idea of the perfect job but this 65 year old long time school teacher and YMCA worker says, “It’s the best job I ever had. I love it.”
