Help Al Otro Lado Workers Fight for Justice

We’re reaching out to ask for your urgent support — not just for ourselves, but for our clients, coworkers, and the immigrant communities we serve every day.
We are frontline staff at Al Otro Lado, a binational legal aid and advocacy organization that supports migrants, refugees, and deportees across the U.S. and Mexico. We are attorneys, case managers, advocates, and support staff — many of us from immigrant families ourselves — committed to providing life-saving legal and social services to people in desperate need.
But now, our ability to do that work is under attack — from within.
After organizing our union to demand a fair contract, dignity on the job, and transparency, we’ve faced escalating retaliation from management. Instead of bargaining in good faith, they’ve:
- Refused to negotiate meaningfully
- Created layoff lists that target vocal union supporters
- Hired new staff while cutting critical frontline positions
- Eliminated social work services entirely for vulnerable clients
This isn’t just a labor dispute — it’s a direct threat to immigrant communities. These cuts mean fewer asylum seekers represented, fewer families helped, and fewer resources available at a time when threats to immigrants are growing nationwide.
Meanwhile, upper leadership has reportedly received significant raises.
We’ve filed an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) complaint and are taking collective action — not only to defend our rights as workers, but to protect the integrity of services our communities rely on. We’re standing up because we believe in the mission of Al Otro Lado — and because we know that immigrant justice can’t exist without worker justice.
Taking this stand comes at a cost. Striking means lost wages and real financial risk. That’s why we’re asking for your help.
Your Donation Will:
- Support striking workers facing lost income
- Help cover legal and organizing costs
- Sustain the fight for fair labor practices and immigrant rights
This struggle is about more than a single workplace — it reflects the pressures many immigrant-serving organizations are under. Your solidarity sends a powerful message: that we won’t allow essential services to be gutted or frontline workers to be silenced.
Please donate, share, and stand with us. Together, we can defend both the workers and the communities at the heart of this mission.
In solidarity,
Al Otro Lado Workers Union
