Hello All! My name is Aidan Walker, a Life Scout from Rye Troop 2. I am currently organizing and running an Eagle Scout Service project, one of the requirements for the Eagle Scout Rank, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts. For this project, I am rebuilding a historical fence at the Bird Homestead on Milton Road in Rye, NY. The Bird Homestead is a historic property in Rye, but it has fallen into disrepair. Many hardworking volunteers are working to restore the property so people can make use of a cool piece of history for many years to come.

My project will include clearing out the area, cutting up large pieces of lumber for the custom fence parts, and constructing and painting the fence. The fence will be approximately 78 ft in length. The paint for the fence will be as close as I can get to the original dark green color. The rails of the fence will be planed with a 45-degree angle as the original owner, Henry Bird, originally had it. Bird planned the rails at this angle, so that when he talked to the girl next door, his love interest, her elbows wouldn’t get wet from the rain when she rested them on the fence. Additionally, I plan to create a standing plaque that illustrates the story of Bird’s love at the fence.

Any donations are much appreciated and will be used to purchase tools, materials, and supplies for the volunteers. Any leftover revenue raised from this project will go to the Bird Homestead for their future projects. Thank you so much to everyone who helps out, monetarily or with your time.
