Aida, a 27-year-old mother, and her three daughters—Kuralay (5), Mariyam (almost 4), and Alua (1)—are facing an urgent and heartbreaking situation. Originally from Kazakhstan, Aida and her family have lived in the United States for a little over two years, with Alua born here in Minnesota. They currently call Richfield home, but their lives were turned upside down on January 7, when ICE officers stopped Aida's husband while he was on his way home from work and detained him. He spent one week in Texas before being transferred to Otero Chaparral Detention Center in New Mexico, where he is still being held. He continues to ask when he will be deported, but is only told 'maybe tomorrow.'
Aida's husband was the sole provider for the family, and since his detention, Aida and her daughters have been left without funds or support. Aida is working with CPB Home to try to electively deport from the US, but the process is slow and uncertain. Many families are told to keep waiting, hoping for government assistance that rarely comes. Aida waited as long as she could, but her money has run out. It is now imperative to get her and her daughters back to Kazakhstan, where they can stay with her parents until her husband is released. The funds raised will be used to purchase three airplane tickets for Aida and her daughters, and other expenses.
I was introduced to Aida through people in Richfield seeking help for someone that spoke Kazakh. Stupidly thinking Turkish was close, I volunteered. Thankfully we have a friend that lived there and was able to help us communicate! I, along with Shelby, have been working with Aida and her daughters to help get the food, items, and safety needed. Now, we all agree it would be best to send them back
Update: We potentially have a private donor to pay all of Aidas back rent! I've lowered the goal to account for that. Hopefully the private donor pulls thru
