Help Afghan Family Pay Unintended $4,000 Phone Bill
Donation protected
Hello there! I am attempting to help a family with eight children who fled Afghanistan and are now desperately trying to make it in the U.S.
One of their children has managed to rack up an Xfinity phone bill for nearly $4,000 on calls to Afghanistan. Neither she nor her father speak or read English, and therefore could not understand any of the warning emails they were sent by the company. Their SIM card has been deactivated until the bill is paid in full. This has had a negative impact on their ability to find jobs and remain employed, so they are caught in a vicious circle. I have spent hours trying to reason with the phone company, but to no avail. This is an incredibly generous family who have insisted on giving us cups of tea and plates of food since moving in next-door. I am a retired teacher and so am keenly aware of the need for the children to attend school. The 17-year old daughter has missed three days of school this week in order to try to resolve this situation.
