All of us have seen the heartbreaking news and images coming out of Afghanistan over the last few weeks. The U.S. military is courageously working to evacuate both American citizens and Afghan allies that have assisted Americans in both military and development operations over the past two decades.
Many of those allies have begun arriving at in the DC Region, and as one of only a few organizations officially registered to resettle refugees, Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Region is mobilizing its community supporters to be a part of this historic welcome of thousands of individuals in less than six weeks by resettling families all around the DC metro area.
A small but mighty team of friends has signed up to organize a home setup for a newly arrived family. A home setup includes purchasing ALL furniture and home supplies needed, and then setting up the house to make a recently resettled family feel at home. As you can imagine, this is a large lift, both financially and time-wise. And our team won't be able to do this without additional support. The expected cost for each home set up is around $5,000.
Please consider donating whatever you can. Your money will go towards buying the large items required for a home set up (beds, mattresses, couches, dressers, etc.).
Since 2002, the U.S. government has employed Afghan Allies to serve alongside its troops, diplomats, and other government employees to advance U.S. military and diplomatic goals. The Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program provides a legal path to safety for individuals who worked with U.S. forces and personnel. As a result of their affiliation, these individuals and their families suffer direct threats to their safety as they have become the targets of anti-American violence.
Thank you for your support!
