Help Adam Kalemba Recover from Life-Saving Heart Surgery
Donation protected
Yesterday, Adam Kalemba, an Estimator in Grand Rapids, experienced a life threatening medical emergency. Doctors discovered he had an aortic aneurysm that had likely been present for years. This condition caused a small internal tear, creating a flap that obstructed blood flow and caused his ventricle to fill dangerously with blood. Emergency surgery was required to save his life.
During the procedure, the surgeon successfully removed the aneurysm, placed a graft, and installed a mechanical aortic valve. Thankfully, his descending aorta and side arteries were in excellent condition and were reattached to the new device. The surgeon remarked that his overall health in these areas was incredibly fortunate. While his liver sustained some damage due to the stress on his heart, it is expected to recover fully over time. His edema is also expected to improve as he heals.
Adam is now facing a difficult recovery process, starting with an anticipated two-week stay in the ICU. While his prognosis is positive, Adam, his wife Jessica, and their young family will be facing many challenges. To help ease some of their stress, we have set up a GoFundMe for them.
