Dear friends, community members and advocates,

My name is Amara and I'm reaching out to you on behalf of my friend, Abimbola. Abimbola currently lives in the UK with her two daughters. She is a dedicated volunteer for the Hackney Migrant Centre and is an incredible friend, businesswoman, mother, and community member. Abimbola came to the UK 2 years ago to seek asylum for her and her daughters (ages 14 and 12), who are threatened with Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Tribal Markings in their home country of Nigeria. Abimbola's husband died in 2021 and since then, Abimbola has been the sole carer of her two daughters. In refusing Abimbola's initial asylum claim, the Home Office said they do not accept that she and he daughters are at risk in their home country. However, her lawyers believe that she has a strong case.

We are asking our community to gather together, and help us raise £2,000 to pay for an expert country repost to comment on the risks to Abimbola and her daughters should they be returned to Nigeria in support of their appeal. We need to do this as soon as possible because the Tribunal has given Abimbola a deadline for filing all her appeal evidence and her solicitor needs time to commission the report from the expert and the expert will need time to prepare it. We want to do absolutely everything we can to help Abimbola win her immigration appeal and stay in the UK. This report will help greatly to ensure the safety of Abimbola, and the protection of her daughter's lives.
