Help a Young Local Access Housing
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Chris McNulty and I am the Outreach Specialist for the Florida Keys Children's Shelter's Transitional Living Program. We provide temporary housing and case management for 18-22 year olds who are working towards their own independence.
I am creating this GoFundMe independently of FKCS to support a young Key West local.
We have a young resident in our Transitional Living Program who has been accepted into permanent affordable housing. She has saved enough money for rent and has fulfilled the employment requirements. This place is hers. However, last week, she was surprised with the news that she will have to pay a $1,000 security deposit in addition to the rent that she has saved up. She moves in to her space in roughly two weeks. This unexpected barrier has our friend feeling, in her own words, "numb."
This young person has been with our program for over a year, and she has been working incredibly hard to raise herself up out of difficult conditions. She enrolled in higher education, is supporting herself financially, is working on healthy friendships and relationships, and most importantly is learning to love herself. She absolutely deserves to have a place of her own.
I recently attended a fundraiser for a local school, and I watched this island raise $1,000 in less than 10 minutes. I know that we can help this very deserving young person achieve her housing goal.
Anything you can offer will go directly to fulfilling the security deposit requirement.
