Help a Warrior Mom & Her Daughters Continue Their Journey
Over 30 years ago, a determined young woman named Tanisha had to make a difficult decision.Just a few credits shy of earning her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Morgan State University, life forced her to put her dreams on hold.
She became a single mother of three amazing children and devoted her life to raising them with strong values, especially the importance of giving back. Philanthropy wasn’t just a lesson; it became a family lifestyle. Her kids even organized their own charitable events, carrying forward what she modeled for them.
But behind her quiet strength, Tanisha has faced unimaginable battles. Most people don’t know that she has survived multiple life-threatening health challenges, including being misdiagnosed, placed on incorrect medications, and enduring repeated diagnosis with different forms of cancer, all while managing Lupus. She has undergone years of different treatments and still requires ongoing monitoring after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma in April of 2022.
Despite all this, Tanisha never gave up.
In November of 2023 she was laid off from her job and has struggled since then to find full-time employment. She took on a part-time jobs that wasn’t always enough to keep up with all her financial obligations. In February of this year she lost her means of transportation. Yet still she pressed on, with a smile on her face and still finding ways to give to others.
Last year, she made the courageous decision to reclaim the dream she had to leave behind more than 30 years ago. She contacted Morgan State University to ask if it was possible to finish her degree. By God’s grace, they said yes! She was able to complete her studies through remote learning.
In the midst of this, she also accepted a job as a daycare center Director. Just weeks in, she contracted Influenza A. As someone with autoimmune conditions & multiple myeloma, this hit her body hard. After finally recovering, she returned to work, only to learn the center was shutting down in the next two weeks.
At the same time, she and her daughters were preparing to move to a more affordable place but the apartment they were set to move to ended up not working out due to her loss of employment. With their previous lease ending, they had nowhere to go. Tanisha had to pay out-of-pocket for a hotel, just to give her and her daughters a roof over their heads while all three of them remained in school.
Still, she pressed on.
This past week, something beautiful happened: All three of them graduated with honors. The twins finished high school, and Tanisha finally earned her college degree after over 30 years.
While this is a huge milestone and absolutely worth celebrating, their journey is far from over.
I’m creating this fundraiser to help them stabilize their next chapter:
● A down payment for a new home
● A reliable car
● Educational expenses for the twins, who have been accepted to multiple universities but still need financial help for the paths they decided to take.
There are fundraisers for people who’ve lost everything, and even for those who’ve simply mismanaged. This is not one of those. This is a story of grit, perseverance, and triumph.
Let’s come together to champion a family who truly deserves it.
Thank you in advance for any contributions you’re able to make, big or small , even if it’s just a share.
