Isaiah was coming home from work at 6 PM on October 19th. While approaching our home, he drove up to a frightening scene. Police officers standing behind their car doors with guns drawn upon a man standing in the middle of the road. This strange man began flagging Isaiah down. Not sure what was happening, Isaiah slowed down, and the man approached. In a split second, he put a gun to Isaiah's head, got in the back seat, and demanded Isaiah drive. Instead of allowing himself to be taken hostage, Isaiah gave up the car to this maniac, a move that probably saved his life. The man moved to the front seat and put the car in reverse, immediately crashing into a ditch. He then proceeded to engage in a firefight with the police. Unfortunately for his family, the guy was killed due to his rash actions.
This story sounds like something from a movie, but it is our reality. We are so unbelievably thankful Isaiah was not hurt or killed yesterday.
However, his car was totaled in the crash and then filled with bullet holes from the gunfight. Since his insurance will not cover these damages, we are forced to turn to our family, friends, and community. We are a young struggling family just trying to live, work, and provide for our kids and a new car is not within our budget. Neither Isaiah nor I am accustomed to asking for charity, but we have our backs against the wall. This horrible thing happened to an innocent person, and it saddens me to say there is no official support system to help. He needs to work to live, and he needs a car to work.
We are seeking a small amount of money to get a reliable used car. We would be eternally grateful if you could contribute anything to help us get back on our feet.
It's incredible how quickly a seemingly ordinary day can change everything.
