Help a Tanzanian Community through Covid-19
Donation protected
My name is Hugo Nadeson and I would like you to help me help a community in Tanzania to survive Covid-19.
In 2019 I was lucky enough to climb Kilomanjaro with my Dad. It was an amazing trip, and other than the feeling of getting to the summit, the best thing for me was the people I met. Africa is a beautiful continent and the Tanzanian guides and porters that I met were the best. Our main organizer was a guy called Elisante and he showed us around his community and what had been built, coffee plantation, handicraft production, all sorts of things which meant that the entire community, not just the guides and porters could participate in the tourist industry. This meant that there was more money in the community for schools to be built and so families could afford school for their kids. It was amazing.
However sadly, just last week we got an email from Elisante and he told us that because of Covid-19 tourism is finished, there are no tourists and so therefore no income for any of his community. Eliante is a proud man and I know he contacted us and probably other people he has guided up Kili in order to support his community. Elisante told me that $30 AUD is enough to feed a family for a month. Yes a month.
So I have decided that I want to help this community who was so vibrant, and welcoming to me. I want to help raise enough money for 20 families for 6 months, hopefully by then the tourists might start to come back. I am donating all of my umpiring money from this season (only 3 games, but still), Mum said she would match it and so did my sister Indra. I am asking that if you can, please help. $30/month, that means $7.50 is enough for a week, $7.50 is not that much for most of us. There is no Jobkeeper or Jobseeker in Tanzania, they really need me to do this and I need you to help, please do what you can,
