My name is Christina, and I am here today because of nothing short of a miracle.
I am a survivor of a horrific act of domestic violence. In a single night, my abuser — the father of my children— tried to take my life. I was shot 14 times. My child was also shot at the hands of this man, their own father. By God’s grace, we survived, but our lives were changed forever.
I live every day with the reality of that attack. The bullets left me paralyzed with a spinal cord injury. My child, who also bears the scars of that night, and I are moving forward together, but the weight of what we’ve endured is heavy. Domestic violence is often called a silent killer, and I know all too well how true that is. So many suffer in silence, trapped in fear, and some never make it out alive. I share my story not only to ask for help, but to shine a light on the devastating truth that domestic violence destroys families, futures, and lives.
One of the greatest obstacles I face now is simply getting around. My wheelchair makes transportation nearly impossible without a handicap accessible vehicle. Everyday needs — medical appointments, school events, groceries, or simply giving my children a normal life — becomes an overwhelming struggle. Too often, we miss out on opportunities, or I have to rely on others just to leave the house.
A handicap accessible vehicle would change everything. It would mean safety, independence, and dignity. It would mean my children and I could finally breathe a little easier, focusing on living and healing instead of fighting through barriers that most people never have to think about.
But these vehicles are incredibly expensive, and insurance does not cover them. That’s why I am reaching out, humbly and from the depths of my heart.
If you are able to donate, no matter how small the amount, you will be helping my family move forward from tragedy toward hope. If you cannot give, simply sharing our story helps more than you know — it raises awareness that domestic violence is not just someone else’s problem, but a very real and devastating issue in our communities.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for listening, for caring, and for standing with us. Survivors like me and my children can only rebuild because of compassion, kindness, and the belief that love is stronger than violence.
With gratitude,
