I am a survivor of human trafficking. For years, I endured violence and abuse from the person who trafficked me. The physical harm he caused left lasting damage which led to multiple surgeries. After he broke my nose and knocked out several of my teeth, I was forced to leave my studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. But I refused to let my story end there.
With the support of my therapist, I eventually returned to school and earned my degree. I rebuilt my life and career and worked hard to create stability after everything I had been through.
Recently, my former trafficker was released from prison after 10 years. When he unexpectedly found me at my workplace, I was terrified. We made eye contact and I immediately ran. Although I contacted the police, because no new crime had occurred and I had left quickly, there was no report filed. Still, I knew I had to relocate to protect myself.
The encounter triggered intense trauma that I had worked for years to heal. I initially took time off work and later tried returning part-time, but flashbacks, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts made it impossible to function in the demanding role I once thrived in. Ultimately, I had to resign in order to focus on healing.
I am now working again in a position where I feel safe and am slowly rebuilding my stability. However, during the months I was unable to work, I fell behind on my rent. Through determination and hard work, I have already paid back $6,000.
I am hoping to raise $5,500 to cover the remaining balance, about two months of rent, so I can finally be fully caught up and continue moving forward.
Surviving trafficking was only the beginning. Rebuilding my life has taken courage every single day. Any support, whether through a donation or by sharing my story, means the world to me.
Thank you for helping me continue my path toward safety and healing.
