My dear friend has faced more challenges in the past year than most people experience in a lifetime. After a difficult divorce and the expiration of her DACA work permit, she lost her job and struggled with deep depression. Despite these hardships, she continued her studies to become a firefighter, all while raising her three children as a single mom. The delay in her DACA work permit meant she couldn’t work for several months, making it even harder to provide for her family.

When her permit finally arrived, she found a new job at a school and things seemed to be looking up. But just as hope returned, a judge ordered her to sell her house and pay IRS debts that were left from her marriage. Her ex-husband kept their business, while she was left with the debt. She lost her case and now must sell her home and pay what is owed to the IRS. If she can’t sell her home in time, she faces the threat of jail. To make matters worse, she was let go from her job because she needed time off to prepare her house for sale.
