I am a single mother of three young children: a one-year-old girl, a four-year-old boy, and a six-year-old boy with Down syndrome. I have no support from their fathers, and I have worked incredibly hard to turn my life around. After some trouble in my past, I have been clean and sober for almost three years now—June 7th will mark three years. I recently graduated from Recovery Court and am off all paperwork, focusing on building a better life for my kids and myself.
For the past two years, my children and I have been living with my sister, her husband, and their two kids. My sisters are my only support, but for the past six months, we have been put through a lot of mental abuse—being yelled at, cussed at, and threatened. It has been extremely stressful, and I want to leave and get away from this environment to have a better life for my kids. We have nowhere else to go, and we are scared, but I know we need to get out of this situation for our own well-being.
Despite my progress, I am facing some really tough challenges. I lost my food stamps and am about to lose Medicaid, which is especially hard because my six-year-old son needs occupational, physical, and speech therapy three to four times a week. For the first time in my life, I bought a car, got my license, and paid for my own insurance. Just three days after paying my first month’s insurance, someone hit me and my four-year-old son, totaling my car. Now, the insurance company is giving me a hard time, and I have no way to get to work or take my son to his therapies. If he misses too many appointments, he could lose his spot, and we’ve worked so hard to get him the help he needs.
I am doing everything I can to keep moving forward, but I am losing everything and don’t know where else to turn. I need help with anything—food for my kids, a rental car, paying bills, or finding a safer place to live—anything to keep us afloat while I sort out the insurance situation and try to move us to a better environment. We would be honored and grateful for any help, and I am willing to pay back anything I can. My kids are my world, and I am asking for any support you can give to help us through this difficult time.
