Help a New Mom Heal After Surviving a Workplace Shooting

Hi, I’m Kristin and I’m organizing this fundraiser for my younger sister, Shannon, and her baby, Austin.

One year ago, while eight months pregnant, Shannon witnessed and survived a horrific workplace shooting that changed her life forever. Although Shannon and her then-unborn son were spared, the weight of surviving has been a heavy one.

I will not share the full details of what she tragically endured out of respect for her privacy and healing. However, what happened that day resulted in the murder of two people who were very significant in her life - her boss, who was also her mentor, and a client who had become her close friend and who had given birth less than 6 months prior. It also led to the closure of the law firm where she worked and the beginning of her battle with survivor’s guilt and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The following month, Shannon gave birth to her son and lost her job. What should have been joyful, peaceful moments of new motherhood became a period of survival, grief, and the sudden loss of her career. Since then, Shannon has shown incredible strength. She is a devoted mom and one of the strongest people I know. But healing from such a traumatic event is unimaginably difficult—especially while raising a baby, grieving, privately rebuilding her life, and learning to cope with the significant daily impact of PTSD.

I created this campaign to help contribute to her living expenses, trauma treatments which are not covered by insurance as she continues to heal and care for her son, as well as exploring what’s next for her future and pursuing a new career path if returning to law is not possible.
