My name is Sujood. I live in Dublin, Ireland, and I’m fundraising for my friend from Gaza who recently arrived in Dublin with her children who require treatment for wounds acquired in the bombing of their home. I’ve known her since she arrived here in Ireland, and I’ve been supporting her and her children as she tries to rebuild her life.
She and her children have come to Ireland to seek safety and access treatment for medical needs after leaving Gaza. She carries her money with her everywhere because she does not yet have a bank account in Ireland, and this money was what our local community has been collecting for her over the past few months. It was her only savings for her children’s future and for the day her husband might join them, whenever he is able to leave Gaza.
Yesterday, while shopping for Eid clothes for her children in the city centre, someone stole her entire savings by opening her rucksack without her noticing. Though she reported this to the police, they have told her there’s little chance of recovering it.
The funds raised here will be used to replace what was stolen, to help her cover immediate living expenses, and to rebuild her and her children’s future here in Dublin. I will withdraw the funds and give them directly to her in cash, as she does not yet have a bank account.
Money alone can’t fix everything she has been through, but it can offer her some stability and relief as she starts to rebuild her life in safety.
Thank you so much for your support and kindness.
