I am a single mother, and my 11 year old son is my entire world. For the last five years, we have built a life here in the UK, a place where my son finally felt safe, loved, and at home. He has his school, his friends, and the stability every child deserves.

But right now, our world is collapsing.

I am an Indian national. My son, due to a complex and painful family history, holds a Pakistani passport. Because of the April 2025 suspension of Indian visas for Pakistani passport holders, we are in a terrifying "limbo." I have begged the Indian High Commission for an exception so I can take my son back to my home country, but after eight months of pleading, we have no answers.

To make matters worse, I was made redundant last year. Without a valid UK visa, I am legally unable to work to support us. We are now on the verge of losing our rented home. We have no income, our savings are gone, and we have no country that will currently take us both together. The UK is the only place we can physically stay, but without legal status, we are facing homelessness.

I am fighting a complex legal battle to secure our right to stay here on human rights grounds, as it is currently impossible for us to return to India together. The legal fees are enormous, and I am drowning in the cost of appeals, solicitors, and basic survival. As a mother, my heart breaks every time my son asks if we’ll have to leave our house. I just want him to wake up feeling secure. I want him to have a childhood that isn't defined by borders, war, and the fear of being displaced.
