We are reaching out to you with heavy hearts, seeking support after a life-shattering event that has left our family in crisis. Our beloved father, a dedicated and caring family man, was unjustly taken from us in a way that no one should ever have to endure.

Just days ago, our father—who always prioritized doing the right thing—went to court for a minor ticket, hoping to resolve the situation and fulfill his responsibilities as an American citizen. I went to court with him, supporting him as he navigated the process. But once we arrived, something unimaginable happened. He was taken into a separate room by ICE, and I wasn’t told what was happening or where he was being taken. For 30 to 40 minutes, we were left in the dark, with no communication or explanation.

When they finally informed us that he had been detained, we were told nothing more. We didn’t know where they were taking him, what they were charging him with, and we couldn’t speak to him. The next day, we learned he had been moved without any prior warning or explanation. We were only able to visit him twice before he was sent away, and during those visits, my younger siblings—ages 13, 14, and 16—were left in tears, utterly distraught, not knowing what was going to happen next.

We had no time to prepare for what came next. Our father was deported to Honduras without any warning, and we didn’t find out until it was too late—a brief phone call from him when he arrived in Honduras was the only way we learned he was gone. Leaving behind his wife, four children, his church community, his co-workers, and countless friends who relied on him. We didn’t even have the opportunity to say goodbye properly.

The legal process was equally heartbreaking. My family hired an immigration lawyer at great personal cost, paying $2,500 to try and prevent his deportation. Despite the clear evidence that our father was at risk of persecution if returned to Honduras, ICE denied him the chance to speak with his attorney, which we know is illegal. His deportation came with no prior warning or explanation, and we were left to pick up the pieces of a shattered family and a broken heart.

The impact on my family has been devastating. My mother, who already struggles with high blood pressure, is now carrying the weight of supporting my younger siblings on her own, without our father’s income. She is also helping raise my 2-year-old nephew, who will feel the loss of his grandfather. My family was already struggling financially, but with my father gone, the burden has grown unbearable.
