My baby boy was considered failure to thrive because he was only wanting to breastfeed and not accept a bottle. At 5 months, he was only weighing 11 lbs but 24 inches tall. No signs of dehydration; he would always breastfeed and just go to sleep after, always happy, smiling, and moving. But the issue was that he was off his growth curve. On Monday of last week, he was admitted into Richland Children’s Hospital by his pediatrician. Since then, he has been given a feeding tube through his nasal that allows me to give him all the breast milk he needs as I pump, but they’re also adding formula because they want him on the growth curve. This morning, the doctor told me, “Maybe by the middle of next week we will see where we are with things.” My baby is now almost 13 lbs, and I’m concerned about the time we have been here and how I’m unable to work. He was born 2/26/25, so once I got back to work in May, I didn’t have much time left to take off and have had to go to several appointments with specialists CENTA, CCTG, etc., and now my household is suffering. Although I generally work from home, I can’t work from the hospital because I work on the phone selling insurance and am behind $1200 for my rent after taking care of electric and my car payment, and I just don’t know who to turn to. Wateree is only assisting with utilities, which is taken care of. I’ve contacted Sister Care but am awaiting a call back and have also attempted Coop Ministries, but they have a requirement to complete courses before you receive help, and I just don’t have that kind of time. We still don’t have a discharge date, and I’m extremely discouraged at this point. I also have 3 children outside of the hospital, ages 14, 11, and 6, that also reside with me, and my sister is gracious enough to get them back and forth to school during this time, which is very hard on me because I’m usually there for every first day of school. This journey has been tough so far, and any help would be appreciated. Thanks
