Seeking Community Help!
Homeless Disabled Veteran in our community could really use our help. I have recently taken it upon myself to befriend a man in my neighborhood that desperately needs help. The gentleman I met is named Bill, and he has 4 German Shepherds that he loves dearly. He came to Oregon from Kentucky a few years ago to help out a family member, but as things often go, it didn't work out as planned. He is currently renting and living out of a U-Haul truck. He has been searching for a home to rent that will accept his 4 large dogs, but as most know, there are breed, weight, and limit restrictions when renting. He receives veterans benefits and social security, a continuous monthly income, but doesn't have a large lump sum to pay first, last, or deposit. The U-Haul isn't a cheap option, but it's a roof over their heads and transportation when needed. He has medical issues that he needs to get back and forth to the VA and a way to haul his dogs to keep them safe. It's not ideal, him sleeping with his belongings in the cab and the dogs being shut in the back for short periods of time, but he's doing his best. I love dogs, all animals, and am a German Shepherd mom myself. These dogs need a yard, room to run, or reliable transportation to and from local dog parks. This gentleman served our country, was injured during his service, and now has found himself in a situation that he just needs a boost of hope, help, and compassion. He has been so forthcoming in our conversations and is the most polite human I've met in a long time. If you have any amount, large or small, to donate towards reliable transportation or housing goods/needs for a veteran in need, it would be much appreciated.
