On Thursday, 18th September, a devastating fire broke out at a family home in Jimboomba, starting outside on the patio. Thankfully, no one was home at the time—and thanks to the incredible efforts of local Shadforth construction workers and neighbours from the Riverton community, the family’s beloved dog, Maisey, was rescued and the property's gas bottles were safely removed. Their quick thinking prevented the entire home from being destroyed.

While the home was not completely lost, it has been significantly damaged. The fire affected the patio, living room, kitchen, and part of the roof. Extensive smoke damage has spread throughout the entire house, ruining furniture, appliances, bedding, clothing, and other essentials. Unfortunately, the house is currently uninhabitable.

The family—along with their two sons, aged 7 and 12, and their dog—have had to urgently find temporary accommodation. While insurance has covered the first two weeks, that amount will be deducted from their contents claim, and it's still unclear how long they will be displaced or what support they’ll receive moving forward. An official assessment of the damage is still pending.

As the family begins to rebuild their lives, any financial help from the community would go a long way in easing the unexpected burden they now face—from replacing basic essentials to covering ongoing living costs while their home is repaired.
