Help a homeless friend who helped the homeless

Those of you who have followed the story of the Midnight Runs sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church in Cold Spring and the Hudson Valley Midnight Run over the years know about Alberto. He began volunteering for the Run during the pandemic when he was homeless himself. His help was invaluable on the street. In time, he found an apartment and worked steadily. About two years ago, he was diagnosed with MS. Shortly afterwards, after an altercation on the street with a client who attacked him, he disappeared from the Run.

He came back last night. It was wonderful to see him, but his news was bad. The company he worked for went out of business and now he's out of work and homeless again. His parents live in the city and in the past, he was able to stay with them at times, but not consistently. And now his father, Rafael, has been diagnosed with colon cancer. Last night, while visiting with us and getting a jacket for his father, he said he would sleep on the G train that night.

On this form I've listed Alberto as family. Nothing else seemed appropriate. After working on the street together, he feels like family.

Prayers for Alberto and Rafael. It's been a terrible year for them. But also please donate to help Alberto and his dad through this difficult time.

Thanks,
Ron Sopyla
