For years, this mom and dad have said “yes” to children in crisis. They have fostered more than 300 children with disabilities and severe histories of abuse and trauma, giving them safety, stability, and love when they had nowhere else to go. After over 23 years of fostering, they are no longer a foster home but they ansered that call for so many children who had nowhere else to go. They have also adopted 20 of those children with 14 remaining at home, committing to care for them for life. This year, the family that has always been there for others is in the fight of their lives. As friends, we have watched crisis after crisis hit them, and they are now at real risk of losing everything. They urgently need a community around them to keep their medically-fragile, disabled children safe and family together.
Several of their children are facing life-threatening medical emergencies. D. has Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe and life-threatening form of epilepsy. He recently had surgery for an implant to help control seizures and is now being evaluated for a deep brain implant, requiring round-the-clock care. F. nearly died from necrotizing fasciitis, a devastating infection, and her recovery is still ongoing. A. experienced a massive seizure and has been struggling every day since just to stay stable. J. was stabbed by a stranger, losing significant lung capacity, and is fighting daily to regain basic strength and function. On top of these medical crises, the family lost their housing and came terrifyingly close to homelessness. They have managed to regain only the most fragile stability, and once again they are on the verge of losing it. Their accessible family vehicle was totaled in an accident, and without a safe, reliable vehicle, they cannot consistently get their children to critical medical appointments, school, therapies, or even basic errands.
Their determination to be there for the kids and always helping others has made it hard for them to be in this position but a landslide of issues has hit and they have just gotten to the point that without assistance to get back on their feet they face impossible odds. Both parents are working two jobs and trading off shifts so someone is always available for hospital stays, appointments, and the intensive daily care their children require. They have cut every expense they can and are doing everything humanly possible to hold things together, but they have reached the point where they simply cannot do it alone. All money donated will go directly to keeping their housing stable and safe, covering essential medical and recovery costs not fully covered by insurance, resolving the vehicle crisis so they can have one dependable, accessible family vehicle, and giving this family enough breathing room to stay together and functioning through these overlapping emergencies. Please help this extraordinary family stay together and keep their children safe. Your support will make a real difference in their lives.
