Hi, my name is Marieme Diallo and I am a recent graduate of NYU Law. While a law student, I participated in an internship program with the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) where I worked on refugee-related matters with both in-house and pro bono outside counsel. This is part two of a fundraising campaign that I started to assist one of those pro bono clients, Mr. Miramkhil Bawar, an Afghan citizen who worked as an interpreter for the U.S. Government. After six years and numerous appeals and other roadblocks, including the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, Miram, his wife, four daughters, and one minor son received approval for their Special Immigration Visa. With funds received through part one of this GoFundMe campaign, among other available resources, at the end of 2024 and against all odds, Miram and his family relocated to Sacramento, California. They were recently awarded Green Cards but have yet to secure employment.
I am restarting this GoFundMe campaign to assist Miram and his family in resettling in the US, particularly as many refugee assistance programs have been defunded. In addition, we are hoping to raise funds to assist Miram’s 22-year-old son, Habibullah Bawar, who is currently isolated in Afghanistan and facing numerous challenges and perilous circumstances. Sadly, he was unable to join the family after their move to the US because he was an adult when SIV approval was sought. We hope the funds raised will help Habibullah travel to Pakistan (and out of harm's way) to begin the long process of emigrating from Afghanistan to either the US or another safe haven country. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
