Hi, my name is Katie and I'm starting a fundraiser for my friend Sheridan. On 11/6 she had to bring her 4 year old daughter, Teighan, to Samaritan hospital for an unexplained high fever and inability to walk or stand. Shortly after she started having vision troubles with still know known cause and was transferred to Albany Medical Centers Pediactric ICU. After running numerous tests and diagnostic procedures Albany med was still unable to determine a cause as her condition worsened leading her to become lethargic, unable to wake up, move and continued fever. IV antibiotics, feeding tube and various other medications were being used. Finally a diagnosis of post viral encephalitis was given caused by Powassan Virus which is a rare virus from a tick. Treatment was started and Teighan slowly started to improve but is now very weak and unconditioned due to being immobile for over a month. Teighan is the sweetest little girl and is now going to require 3 months of in patient physical therapy at a specialty hospital in Philadelphia. Sheridan has been by her side this entire time and has not been able to work with another anticipated 3 months of being out while in Philadelphia. Sheridan is a hardworking single mother with 2 other children at home. With all that is going on and Christmas right around the corner I am looking to get her some help and help her family enjoy Christmas during this stressful time.
