Help a family battling Aplastic Anemia
Hi and thanks for taking the time to be here reading this.
Leyla is 12yrs old and has been diagnosed with a rare and serious condition called Aplastic Anemia. Her bone marrow has stopped making red blood cells and the only thing that will fix this is a bone marrow transplant. At the moment she has weekly trips to the hospital for blood or platelets transfusions, sometimes both.
Leylas mum Stacey is a single parent and a self employed hairdresser. For the last 6 months Stacey hasn't been able to continue working like she did before and as you can imagine not only is this heartbreaking for her knowing her daughter is so poorly but it's left a huge financial stress hanging over her.
Leyla has a tough journey ahead and will be in hospital for at least 12 weeks in isolation when she gets her transplant. Luckily Leylas amazing younger brother Jake is a match and is going to be donating his stem cells to save his sister's life. Jake doesn't realise just how much of a hero he is and it's important he's recognised for the huge part he's playing in this horrific journey.
Leyla will also have to undergo chemotherapy as well which will mean she will lose her hair. This isn't great for anyone, but for a 12 year old girl she's taking it all in her stride and is being super brave about the whole situation and has been from the moment she was diagnosed.
Stacey and Leyla are off to St Mary's hospital in London in the middle of December to start treatment and the next 6 months after that will be her road to recovery.
I'd love to be able raise as much money as we can to be able to take away some of the financial stress from Stacey in the next few months. It would also be amazing for them to have a little to be able to put towards a well deserved family day out or short break away once Leyla is given the all clear and able to go back to living a normal life again.
Things are extremely difficult for everyone at the moment so I appreciate people may not be able to help.
