For close to a decade, families in Aylesbury have stood together in freezing winds, under umbrellas, in hired halls and open fields to celebrate their festivals. Parents have taught their children prayers in car parks and back gardens. Festivals that should have filled a prayer hall with colour and joy have instead been held in makeshift temples.

Aylesbury is a town built on unity, compassion, and shared belonging across cultures and faiths. Aylesbury Hindu Temple (AHT) is a charity that has united families across Buckinghamshire, UK for spiritual, cultural and social gatherings and kept its traditions alive, gathering wherever space allowed, often braving harsh weather with little more than hope, dedication, and togetherness.

Despite this, AHT has continued to give back- supporting local foodbanks, helping the homeless, honouring the sacrifice of soldiers through Mission Marigold, imparting cultural education in school assemblies and serving the wider community regardless of background or belief. This spirit of seva (selfless service) is at the heart of who we are.

Today, we are taking a heartfelt step forward in building a permanent place of worship and community centre in Aylesbury. A place where children learn their heritage, families gather in prayer, festivals are celebrated with joy and the community is connected. A place that will stand as a beacon of peace, culture, learning, and social contribution for generations to come.

But we cannot do this alone.
