A vital member of our community is need of your help.
Martha Trujillo is a well-known and respected friend and colleague of many in the Charlottesville community. She's been helping and serving in our area since she and her family moved here from Mexico over 20 years ago. Martha has made a particularly huge impact advocating for and supporting the Latinx community through translation, tax filing support, and connecting folks to the resources they need. She was recently recognized by Allen Allen Allen & Allen as one of their carefully selected 2020 Hometown Heroes for "making a difference and working tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic." She continues to show her dedication to helping the community in the Southwood neighborhood where she is deeply loved and valued by residents and coworkers.

She also cares fiercely for her husband and two children, their dear cats and dogs, and her relatives and friends both local and across the world. Martha has been the backbone for her family through her daughter's leukemia, her mother's passing, her husband's health complications and surgeries over the past 3 years (the most recent surgery just in June), the loss of extended family to Covid-19, and recently losing two dogs. Martha continues to face each challenge with grace and positivity.

The debts that have come with these trials are piling up though. Medical bills in particular are weighing on Martha's family to the point of jeopardizing their ability to cover regularly monthly costs like rent.
How can we help? Please donate to cover the remaining $7,000 owed on a loan taken out to cover end-of-life health expenses for Martha's mother that has a crippling 37% interest rate. This loan in particular has been extremely challenging to pay off over the past 5 years as the vast majority of each payment goes towards interest as the principal barely decreases. Martha has said that if she is finally able to pay off this loan, their finances will be adequately stabilized to get them through this difficult time.
Please give anything you can to help this beautiful person receive back the love and care she gives to others every day.
