Help a Brooklyn Family Make a Home

In April of 2020, a loving, single mother living in Brooklyn, NY, passed away due to complications from COVID-19, leaving behind her 17 year old son, D. Marisol, one of her closest friends, has since become D's legal guardian.
Upon going to the home D grew up in and shared with his mother, Marisol learned that there was a roach infestation and the unit was in poor condition.
Marisol and D, along with Marisol's daughter, S, have been working hard on cleaning out the home and have gotten a grant to assist in paying for an extermination. Our team at Gala Magrina Design has come on board to help design and furnish the space, along with help from vendors who have already donated flooring, paint and a desk so D. has a proper place to study.
Marisol’s lease ended in January 2021 and they moved back into the home this past February so that D. can resume schooling in his borough, continue close ties to his community, and find connection and healing in the space he once shared with his mother – the most important person in his life.
I have included photos of their current conditions. We need a bunch of new items to make this house begin feeling like a home. Marisol, a single mother of three herself (now 4), is looking for a place of sanctuary and calm for herself and her family. We believe that good design impacts lives and want to do good things for great people. When I first met Marisol, D and S and learned about all the adversity they were facing and got to experience first hand that in the face of everything life was throwing there way, they remained positive, playful and happy, creating a beautiful and healthy home for them became a MUST.
For donations of $150 or more, you will receive a 15-minute virtual space reading by Holistic Interior Designer and Feng Shui expert, Gala Magriñá. During the reading, Gala will tell you what your space is saying about you and where you might be having issues in your life, as well as offer some simple modifications to improve the space both physically and energetically. If you have a room that doesn’t feel right, isn’t complete or has been bugging you for a while, this is a great opportunity to get some professional advice and make a positive change in your life. Once you make the donation we will reach out to you to schedule the reading.
