Updated 4/7/26:
A City College, Hampstead Hill Academy, and John Ruhrah family in Baltimore City was struck by terror and loss due to immigration enforcement. On the morning of 12/19/25, the family was on the road together for what was supposed to be a joyous day together to shop for Christmas presents, when they were stopped by ICE agents. Three family members were detained at once in a terrifying moment witnessed by one of the family’s teen children.
Before being torn apart on Friday 12/19/25, all the family members were living a loving life together under one roof, united here for 18 years; always guided by their dream to provide a better future for their children and contribute to their community with their work and kindness. Now, 1 child was torn away from their mother and an additional 3 children were left grieving the separation from their grandfather, aunt, uncle and now grandmother. Since the detainment, grandfather and aunt have been deported, and the grandmother self-deported to re-unite with her husband in early March.
We deeply appreciate the donations so far that supported emergency funds for basic needs and legal expenses.
The remaining family is still in need of funds towards rent and utilities as they transition. Thank you for any generosity you can share with this family. If you can't donate, please share so that others may be able to.
