Hello, my name is Lauren Smith, and I’m reaching out on behalf of two of the kindest people you could ever meet—my grandparents, Riley and Libby Jones.
They are 96 and 95 years old and just celebrated an incredible 70 years of marriage this July. My grandfather loves nothing more than sitting down with a good book or sharing stories with visitors, and my grandmother will always greet you with a warm smile, a snack, and make sure you're as comfortable as can be. They have spent their lives showing kindness to everyone around them—and now, they need a little kindness in return.
The Crisis They're Facing
Just two weeks ago, a major plumbing disaster struck their home. Roots had invaded their sewer line, causing sewage to back up and flood their bathroom, hallway, and living room with contaminated water.
It was worse than anyone expected:
-Their entire bathroom had to be gutted.
-Mold was discovered during demolition.
-The living room flooring was completely ruined.
-And now they’re displaced from the home they’ve lived in for decades.
They're currently staying in a small, non-handicap accessible apartment in a less-than-ideal area. It’s far from the comfort and safety of their own home.
The Financial Burden
The plumbing alone will cost over $8,000.
Insurance is covering just $5,000, minus a $2,500 deductible—leaving only $2,500 to cover:
-Mold removal
-Repairs
-Flooring
-New shower, toilet, and vanity
-Temporary housing
Just the initial cleanup by ServePro cost $2,500, meaning there’s nothing left for actual repairs.
The total estimated cost is well over $10,000, and likely growing.
Why We’re Asking for Help
My grandparents have been retired for over 30 years. Like most people in their 90s, they don’t have savings set aside for a disaster like this.
My mother and aunt are doing what they can from out of state. My husband Bryan and I are exploring every avenue we can to get them help—but we can’t do it alone.
We’re humbly asking for any support—donations, shares, or connections to resources—to help us:
-Restore their home
-Relieve the financial and emotional stress
-And most importantly, get them safely back where they belong.
No one should have to deal with this kind of crisis at 96 and 95 years old. Every dollar, every share, every kind word truly makes a difference.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
