Rusty is in her mid-90s, and no one should have to endure what she has been through.

Just a few months ago, Rusty lost her daughter, her only family. After her daughter passed away, Rusty could no longer afford the rent on her own and was evicted from her home. She tried to do the right thing and moved into a senior living facility, hoping to find safety and support. Instead, she experienced horrific sexual abuse there and made the heartbreaking decision to leave and live on the streets.

For the past two months, Rusty has been living out of her car in the brutal Phoenix heat. Every day, she spends hours sitting at the park trying to stay cool and make it through another day. At night, she sleeps alone in her vehicle.

The extreme temperatures are taking a devastating toll on her health. Heat exhaustion has become an almost daily struggle. This morning, she fell and was unable to get up on her own. She wasn’t sure how she was going to make it, until a kind stranger stopped to help her. It is becoming increasingly dangerous for her to continue living this way.

At an age when she should be surrounded by comfort, care, and dignity, Rusty is fighting simply to survive.

This fundraiser is being created to help Rusty immediately secure a hotel room where she can escape the deadly heat, shower, sleep safely, and begin to recover. My ultimate goal is to help her find a permanent, safe assisted living environment where she can finally have the peace and security she deserves. Unfortunately, those options are expensive, and she has no family left to turn to after losing her daughter.
