An 8-year-old child should not be fighting for his life.

But Ethan is.

Right now, his small heart is struggling to deliver enough oxygen to his body. Doctors have diagnosed him with Tetralogy of Fallot, a severe congenital heart defect he was born with. This condition means there is a large hole in his heart and a narrowing in the blood vessel that carries blood to his lungs. Because of these defects, oxygen-poor blood circulates through his body instead of the oxygen-rich blood he needs.

For Ethan, this is not just a diagnosis on paper. It is his everyday reality.

He gets tired faster than other children. Sometimes he must sit down and watch while others keep playing. He wants to run, to laugh, to be carefree, but his body does not always allow it. There are moments when he becomes breathless, and you can see the effort it takes for him to keep going.

As a family, it is heartbreaking. We see his strength. We see how hard he tries. And we also see how much he deserves a childhood that is not limited by a struggling heart.

Doctors at the National Cardiothoracic Centre in Ghana have told us clearly: Ethan needs open-heart surgery to repair the defect. This surgery is his chance, his chance to breathe normally, to regain energy, to grow up without his heart holding him back.

The total cost of the surgery and hospital care is approximately €10,000. For our family, this amount is overwhelming. We are doing everything we can, but we cannot reach this goal alone.
