TANZANIA ORPHANAGE NEEDS STUDY AND ACTIVITY CENTER

Hello! We are Peggy and Dennis Crull, the former owners of the international travel company Cruise & Tour. Want to join us again in making a difference? We raised money to restore power to an orphanage in rural Tanzania and then provide them with their own water supply to replace costly water by the truckload. Both of those projects are now up and running! OUR NEXT PROJECT IS TO UPGRADE THE ACTIVITY CENTER AND BASKETBALL COURT. Our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit exists solely to support Tumaini For Africa Orphanage outside Arusha in northern Tanzania. The orphanage, which we discovered while on safari, receives no government support and is home to 35 children ages 3 and up who were abandoned on the streets of Arusha. These children now live and care for each other together at the orphanage as a family. In the photo of our family with the kids and orphanage staff, you will see an open-air building in the background. This is the old activity center. In addition to being too small for everyone to gather, it was open to the elements and not very useful after dark. Our mission is to A) Enlarge and completely enclose the building, B) Furnish it with new furniture, C) Install new lighting and ventilation fans, and D) Install audio/video equipment. Thanks to the generosity of some past donors, Part A has been completed with the the building of new walls, installation of a door and windows, and construction of a new roof over the entire building including the attached library, which is not shown in the photo. When the project is complete, the kids will have a place where they can all gather for homework, music lessons, reading, art projects, games and recreation. In addition to this upgrade of the activity center, we want to improve the basketball court in front of it by installing a new all-weather playing surface to replace the dirt court and and install an adjustable height backboard and rim to replace the 10-ft. high basket the small kids have no chance of reaching.
