On March 21st, our sweet boy Hayes was admitted to the hospital with severe jaundice, acute liver failure, and multiple other serious complications. After 9 days at Park Ridge Children’s Hospital with no answers and a worsening condition, we were transferred to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. There, Hayes was immediately diagnosed with Influenza B—believed to have triggered his immune system to attack his liver while trying to fight off the virus.
Despite all efforts, there was no saving Hayes’ liver—he needed a transplant. On April 11th, just two days after being placed on the transplant list, Hayes underwent liver transplant surgery. The procedure was a success, but Hayes has endured numerous other complications, including issues with his bowels and kidneys. He was also intubated and heavily sedated for 11 days, and now faces a long journey ahead—he will need to relearn how to walk, talk, and overcome many developmental delays with extensive physical therapy and support.
Throughout all of this, Hayes’ dad has had to miss significant time at work to support our other children and be by our side. As a result, we’ve fallen behind on medical bills, transportation, and essential living expenses. I’ve been at the hospital 24/7 with Hayes, and we’re doing everything we can—but we need help to keep going.
We are asking for any support—whether it’s a donation, a share, or even a kind word of encouragement—as we fight to get Hayes healthy and bring him home.
We are deeply grateful for the love and support we’ve received so far. Thank you.
