Help 12 Guatemalan Families have Christmas!

Donation protected
Hello Everyone and Merry Christmas!!

For those of you who don’t know me or about this fundraiser, I’ll fill you guys in. My name is Laura Nagy, and I was born in Guatemala. My parents met as missionaries working in an orphanage. My mom is a native Guatemalan and grew up in extreme poverty, much like these families. She is one of 11 kids and neither of my grandparents were literate. Through hard work and the generosity of Americans like you, my mom was sponsored to finish her education and become a teacher, which is how she met my dad!

A few years ago, during the peak of COVID, I learned of an extremely rural and predominantly indigenous village in Guatemala, called Cajahualten.
When I visited and saw the conditions these people live in, it broke my heart. Many of the families live in a one room homes with dirt floors, tin makeshift roofs, and sleep on the floor. Most of these families only speak their indigenous language and their children aren’t able to go to school. During COVID, the local school shut down and the government never reopened it.

Thus, three years I created a GoFundMe, “Help Impoverished Families in Guatemala have Christmas.” The first year we were able to sponsor 5 families! Last year, through the generosity of family and friends, we sponsored 12 families! In addition to what we were able to send down monetarily, a family friend organized a drive and donated shoes, underwear, socks, sweaters, toothbrushes & toothpaste, toys, hair clips, and candy and we were able to distribute that in person in January of 2022.

This year the village nurse reached out to our team in Guatemala and asked if the kids were going to have a Christmas. She said 12 families in particular, are living in horrible conditions. My goal is to help as many of those families as possible ($2500), and we can do that with your help!

The cost of living in Guatemala is quite low which means, any quantity you feel led to donate, no matter how big or small, makes a big difference in the lives of these families. Each family that we support costs around $200. This covers the cost of food (Christmas meal & food through the New Year), shoes and clothing items for the children, and of course- toys!

I am so thankful for all the families we’ve been able to help through the kindness and generosity of friends and family. Please see below a few pictures of the families we’re going to support and what your donation goes towards.

Again, thank you so much for your continued support and for loving the people of my country. God bless you all and have a blessed and Merry Christmas.

With love,

Lory
