Help Tahreer and Her Son Mohammed Survive and Rebuild Their Lives

My name is Tahreer, and I am a mother from Gaza. I am trying to keep my 6-year-old son Mohammed alive in the middle of war and displacement.

Before the war, Mohammed was like any child his age — full of energy, laughter, and dreams. But now, his childhood has been stolen. His school is gone, his toys are gone, and even his safe bed is gone. Today, we live with nothing. No home, no income, no stability.

In 2023, our house was bombed and destroyed completely. Overnight, we lost everything we had built. Since then, Mohammed and I have been moving from one shelter to another, and now we live in a tent. The conditions are unbearable — extreme heat during the day, cold at night, dust, no clean water, and no electricity.

Every day, I see my son suffering. He asks me for food, toys, and the chance to go back to school, but I have nothing to give. We survive on what little food we can find, and baby supplies, clothes, and medicine are almost impossible to afford.

My husband is no longer able to provide for us — the war took away his work, his tools, and every opportunity. Now I stand alone, carrying the weight of our survival on my shoulders.

What breaks my heart the most is that Mohammed is not living his childhood like other kids. A child his age should be going to school, carrying his backpack, and laughing with his friends… but today, Mohammed only knows the sound of planes, the fear of displacement, and the loss of play and education.

Sometimes he asks me: “Mama, when will we have a home? When will I go back to school?” — and I have no answer. I just look into his eyes and try to plant a little hope in his heart, even though mine is heavy with pain.

As a mother, my greatest fear is losing my child to hunger, illness, or fear. I dream of giving him a normal life — where he can laugh, feel safe, and have a future away from all this destruction.
