Mission statement

Since the dawn of time, communities across the globe have been nourished by the fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other plants that the earth produces. Packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other micronutrients, these ‘fruits of the earth’ are essential for good health and well-being.

As a child growing up in Jamaica, I remember picking all sorts of goodies from the trees – succulent mangoes, papaya, sweet oranges, plantain, coconuts, ackees, jackfruits, breadfruit, cocoa bean pods. From the ground, we would harvest a variety of yams, potatoes, cassava, callaloo, and pineapples. From these bounties, we would create simple, delicious meals full of flavor, taste, and good nutrition. Years later, after moving to the US for work, I was blessed to meet Mrs. Savannah (Vann) Robinson – my cousin’s mother-in-law. A native of Mobile, AL, Mrs. Robinson was a natural old-fashioned chef who made the most delicious foods without needing recipes or measuring cups! A big-hearted and Godly woman, Mrs. Robinson opened her home and her heart to me, and seeing that I could not get enough of her food, she started teaching me some of her prized recipes. One of these was her plant-based take on southern fried chicken, which she had developed to perfection over some 50 years. By the time I met her, this particular delicacy had become known the world over for its deliciousness and likeness to the real thing!

It’s out of this heritage that Vann’s Kitchen was created. Our single mission is to create enticing plant-based foods using fresh, natural ingredients prepared with a comfort food vibe and Caribbean flair. At Vann’s Kitchen, we believe that food must not only be good for the body but good to the taste! We invite you to taste and see!
