After four long years, the Heimburgers are thrilled to share that their second adoption is underway—they’re now a family of four! Due to the nature of the adoption, many details (including her name) can't yet be shared, so we’ll call their newest addition “Baby Girl” or BG for short.
Shortly after BG was born, the Heimburgers got a call from their agency asking if they’d like to be presented to the birth mom. They said “Yes!”—and just an hour later, they were chosen. That same day, they rushed to be by BG’s side in the hospital, where she spent 7 days in the NICU. After her discharge, it took another 6 days of legal steps and temporary custody approval before they could finally bring her home to KC. Imagine doing all of that from an Airbnb with a preemie!
What many don’t realize is that while adoption takes years of waiting, the final steps often happen in a flash—and with them comes a major financial burden. Although they had already saved and paid for some parts of the process, many unexpected costs hit all at once: legal fees, birth mom and baby medical bills, travel, temporary housing, and more—all totaling up to $50,000.
Those who know Andrew, Janelle, and Ava know how deeply they love and how hard they’ve worked to grow their family. BG is lucky to have such an incredible big sister and parents—but even the most loving families sometimes need a village. If you feel moved to support them during this exciting but financially intense time, donations of any amount are truly appreciated.
They also have a registry for baby essentials (it’s been seven years since they had a newborn!), and the link is available upon request.
On behalf of the Heimburgers—thank you for your love, prayers, support, and generosity. They are overwhelmed with gratitude.
