Hi, my name is Ayla, I'm 14, I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and I am fundraising for Rossway Riding for the Disabled.
Before I started riding with the RDA, I was struggling with chronic pain and fatigue, and my body was so deconditioned that I could no longer attend school and was using a wheelchair. I was also struggling with anxiety, tics and OCD. Regular riding has changed everything for me! It is the best physiotherapy (and psychotherapy!) I've ever received, and I am now back in school, wheelchair free and getting stronger all the time. When I ride, all my tics disappear and I feel calm, happy and free.
Hector is a new Pony that I've started riding every week and he is helping me so much, both physically and emotionally. Meeting him has been like finding my 'best friend horse.' BUT, he is costing Rossway RDA £6,000 and I really want to help them be able to pay for him and other special horses like him.
The RDA horses are amazing. They have to be kind, patient and willing, and able to cope with a variety of difficult and unexpected things. But this means they are getting more expensive to buy and to look after:
- £750 will buy Hector the new saddle he desperately needs so that he and his riders will be safe and comfortable.
- £1000 will cover a year's vet fees for a pony like Hector
- £5000 will go towards buying a new pony
- £7000 will go towards a new horse.
The RDA relies entirely on their amazing volunteers and charitable donations. They desperately need your help to be able to keep offering this unique therapy to people like me.
