Hector's 2023 NYC Marathon with BBBS NYC
Tax deductible
Hi everyone! I'm running a marathon!
You read that correctly: come November 5th, Hector Biaggi, noted home recluse, will be running 26.2 miles in the NYC marathon. I have already been training, and am up to 15 miles so far. With some more practice, many more hours of running, and a little luck, I am feeling good about my chances in finishing it.
That being said, it's not all sneakers and rainbows. Those who have spoken with me can attest to the fact that I've been getting dreadfully bored during my runs (it takes me about two and a half hours to run 13 miles- and that's a half marathon), and after some particularly long runs that have left me panting with achey muscles, I have been griping to anyone who will listen about how 26 miles is just way too long of a distance to expect a normal human to being to run. I've even joked about just giving up- that I have nothing here to prove except my own ego.
...Though that's not exactly true. I am running for charity, and happy to be supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC , a youth mentoring organization that I have had the pleasure of volunteering for in the past. After many attempts to try to run the NYC Marathon through the lottery over the past few years, I'm glad that I have the opportunity to run to raise money for BBBS, especially since I've done the work they have done firsthand. I wouldn't be running 26+ miles for just any charity, and I'm happy that my steps can contribute to BBBS's mission.
For those who know me, you all know that I am not one to ask for money. Then again, I know the value of reaching out to other when help is needed. That being said, I need your help. If you have some good will and have the money to spare (and only if you have the money to spare), then I would appreciate you throwing a couple of dollars my way and giving me some words of encouragement. If the rent is going up and inflation has your wallet looking thin, that's fine as well: whether it's sharing this fundraiser with your own network, or simply showing up at the marathon to berate me for my grandpa shuffle, any kind of support is appreciated. Even if it's a "Glad it's you and not me", I'll bear my grudge for the knowledge that the support will be going to a good cause.
I also want to make sure this isn't just me panhandling: there's good reason to do it as well. I want to acknowledge the people who do decide to support me monetarily, so for every person that donates, no matter how small the amount, I'll throw an extra dollar of my own to inch us closer to the $3500 goal. Also, everything donated through GoFundMe will be tax-deductible- if you're going to be losing the money anyway, might as well get some good will from me and have a little extra good tacked onto it!
Thanks for taking the time to read, and I'll see you all in New York City come November!
