HI All, Its Gavin here from PDC. This fundraiser is for Team Hebden, the charity arm of the brilliant Hebden Green School.
We/PDC are a racing team ran by volunteers who try to give back to our communities through our love of racing. We are STEM ambassadors and visit schools to inspire and engage with young people and we invite people to the track, we hope to help young people build their confidence and see that anything is possible by sharing our life stories, engaging them and sharing how we got to do what we do, we share wider information on industry also. We have donated to many causes in the past but never delivered a project of this size. This is our first go fund me and all funds will go directly to Hebden's registered charity, Team Hebden.
Thanks for reading so far. The brainchild and hero of this story is Billie Wood. I have known Billie for nearly 11 years. We have been friends with Billie and her family and gone racing together under the PDC banner. They have already supported me and many others but are turning that support right up for this cause.
Billie works with young people and is very passionate about developing opportunity and improving outcomes. My daughter Darcey has a very rare condition and is one of 30 children in the world to have her challenges. The team at Hebden are outstanding at supporting her and developing her to improve her opportunities in life (as they do with all of their students). Billie has known Darcey all of her life, she recognises the additional challenges Darcey faces and she is aware of the work Hebden do to help Darcey and other vulnerable young people. Darcey loves being part of the team and she loves school.
With all of this in mind Billie has set up a project. We are not fundraising for the project, we will fund the costs associated with that ourselves. We are using the project to raise awareness and raise much needed funds for Team Hebden so that they can do more for vulnerable young people, their families, and the staff that look after them. Our hope is that this improves the quality of life for many people and improves outcomes for the young people who need it the most.
Billie (having never raced before) is teaming up with her partner Ben, Dad Jason and brother Jake to build a 24 Hr racing car, Ford Ka, and to compete for the first time in an endurance race. This requires a race licence, a car that the team will build and a whole lot of courage! The team will share the journey and following the 24 hr race will sell the car to raise funds for Hebden. Along the way we will be fundraising through events and regular comms.
The ask, knowing that times are hard, is that if you can spare anything to support Team Hebden to go about their work and improve outcomes for vulnerable young people please do. We will share any updates from the school as we go along but be sure this money really will support and deliver benefit. Our lofty ambition is to get to £10,000. We recognise the challenge associated with it but we are ready to go and will do our best, every little counts.
Thanks for reading, please share if you feel you can.
